5 Apps Every Journalist Should Be Using

  1. Lightroom: If Instagram isn’t cutting it with the filters, people should download the Lightroom app because it’s free if you have an iphone. You can change a photo drastically with changes in lighting, radiance and tinting. Additionally, you can edit photos professionally on your phone if you need to blog or edit quickly on the go.
  2. Hootsuite: I run a few accounts on Instagram for my major. If you have to manage social media for a business like I have to, this app allows you to schedule all your posts. Rather than having to remember throughout the week, you can load your posts up on a Sunday night once, and the posts will update automatically.
  3. Canva: Canva is perfect for making aesthetically pleasing promotional posters and graphics. Some designs are $1.99, but there are a ton that you can use for free. For a social media savvy app, it’s much easier and quicker than InDesign and Photoshop.
  4. TapeACall: As a journalist, I need to transcribe phone calls sometimes. TapeACall is perfect for recording your phone calls effortlessly. It does cost money to record your calls freely, but it’s so worth it if you’re constantly doing interviews. Definitely remind your sources they’re being recorded beforehand as well.
  5. WordPress: This might seem like an obvious one, but posting on the WordPress app is so much more convenient if you need to do a quick post. This is one of the best mobile apps I’ve seen that is just as good as the computerized website.

ALSO, I recently got an article written about me, and I linked it below. I’ve been the editor in chief for Cardinal Points, a staff writer for DoNorth magazine, an editorial assistant for Saranac Review, and a social media manager for the literary magazine ZPlatt. I also used to co-host a radio show and have been a teaching assistant for three different classes.

Today, I went for a more bohemian look and opted for this loose fitted feather printed tank top with a frill. It’s supposed to be very loose flowing, and I love that it’s like a more relaxed peplum top. The top was $6.99 from Old Navy. I’m also wearing ripped black jeans from Joyce Leslie, which were $20.00. My rose gold necklaces were also from Joyce Leslie for $2.00, which is a steal. I went for a top knot with the whole look and thought it pulled the outfit together nicely.

This Target candle was only $3.00, and I really liked the scent. I like more simple scents, but this one is a nice mix of coconut and citrus, and it’s not overpowering either.

Spring/Summer College Outfits

I was very busy in college with classes and finals, so I barely had time to share my outfits from school. Here is a compilation of some of my favorite looks from the school year that I managed to find on my phone.

Forever 21 Romper: $12.99: I loved this romper because it was super comfortable to wear out, and then it was really cute during the day to wear with a cardigan and converse sneakers.

Rue 21 Sweatshirt: $5.00 Forever 21 Leggings: $3.99: I loved how casual this look was. The sweatshirt was perfect for class and it looks a little bit more put together with leggings and converse.

Black Knitted Crop Top: $8.99: I loved this crop top  because of the high neckline and the fit. It pairs well with high-waisted jeans because it isn’t too cropped to the point that my stomach was too exposed.

Lizard Printed Blouse from H&M: $12.99 Black Trouser Leggings from H&M: $9.99: This was one of my favorite buys from the spring. The reptile printed blouse is fun and quirky. The pastel and neutral colors also gave the look a more spring vibe.

Here’s the full outfit.

Forever 21 Blue Dress:$12.99 Khaki Jacket by Love Tree: $19.99 Forever 21 Necklace: $8.99:  The khaki jacket is great because it pairs well with dresses and skirts. The dress is also cute enough to wear both formally and casually.

Studded Collared Blouse by Mine: $14.99: For a more professional occasion, I wore my hair in a high ponytail to showcase the studding on this blouse.

H&M Cardigan: $11.99 Forever 21 Necklace: $3.99: For a more preppy look, I wore this beige cardigan with white piping on the neckline and down the buttons.

Rue 21 Pink Tank Top: $5.00: This was just a light airy top that I found in the clearance rack of Rue 21.
